“His banner over me was love” (Song of Solomon 2:4 NKJV).
Of all the banners God could have chosen to herald over us, He chose a banner of love. He could have chosen a banner of righteousness, victory, glory, power, or any aspect of His character; but instead He chose love.
What an incredible realization that the Creator of the Universe, the All-Powerful King, and our Good Heavenly Father chooses to display a banner of love over us when He could have chosen any other facet of His nature.
We too, every day, can choose what banner to stand under.
Throughout history, a banner was used as a token to be seen afar off to identify a tribe, military unit or other select group. It was often set up on a high mountain, especially in case of an invasion. It showed people where to assemble, and was also used in times of war to show a rallying point.
As we journey through life, we need to watch where our rallying points are. Do we rally under banners of judgement, disappointment or control? God’s banner for us is one of love. However, it can be easy to find another banner to rally to, especially when we feel in the midst of a battle.
When a battle surrounds us, we can feel the pull to stand under different banners. These banners flash about demanding attention such as fear, human effort, anger, manipulation or bitterness. They can appear louder than the voice of Love if we let them, and even appear as the logical options.
But look up! See the banner of love our Heavenly Father covers us with. Run to Love. The banner of Love is the perfect place to stand in the midst of your storm. In the chaos of the battle you’re in, rally to His love. Find your victory under His banner of unending love towards you.
1 John 4:18 declares that perfect love casts out all our fear. When we stand under His banner of love, all fear, and the other banners that proclaim their rallying cry, are silenced and lowered in the presence of Love. Rally to Love today.
A SELAH MOMENT
In the midst of life’s circumstances, what banner do you find yourself usually standing under? Ask Holy Spirit if you are standing under any other banner other than His Love. Choose to lay down any banners of human effort and run instead to God’s Love.
